- 10 Canter trucks will be shipped to Tajikistan through the Official Development Assistance program under Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- The trucks are specially equipped to support emergency medical services throughout Tajikistan.
Kawasaki, Japan — Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC; headquarters: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Hartmut Schick), will deliver 10 light-duty Canter trucks to support medical emergency care in Tajikistan, through an aid project overseen by the Japanese government’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) program.
The 10 light-duty Canter trucks to be delivered are of the FG 4x4 double cab model, supporting the transportation of multiple medical personnel throughout the various regions of Tajikstan. The vehicles come equipped with specially configured van bodies that house storage areas for medical equipment, allowing the truck to serve as a moving clinic or primary point of emergency care. Ramps that allow easier entries for patients on stretchers are also added to the back of the van. Furthermore, with their powerful 4x4 drive and sturdy build, the delivered Canters can be operated in a wide range of environments, ranging from cities to more rural areas. The shipment of these vehicles is expected to provide much needed material support in a time when Tajikstan’s health system is under strain from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Japanese ODA program is overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was created with the intention of providing aid in the form of supplies, financial loans, and personnel training to countries in need. MFTBC has been involved in ODA projects from the past, delivering vehicles to locations such as Burkina Faso, Rwanda and Tonga. As one of Asia’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers active in over 170 markets worldwide, Mitsubishi Fuso is committed to fulfilling its role as a responsible corporate citizen.
Marc Niefer, Head of Customer Services Trucks Asia, commented, "We are honored that our products will contribute to international medical care through the Japanese ODA project under the recent global pandemic. We hope that this will strengthen emergency medical services throughout Tajikistan and contribute to the further development of regional medical care.”
