Before the start of series production, the eCitaro fuel cell had to pass numerous functional and safety tests. This also included a winter alpine crossing – a test run with many challenges.

QBuzz and OV-bureau Groningen Drenthe local public transportation companies have decided to purchase 35 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G articulated buses with fully electric drive.
  • Leinfelden-Echterdingen / Hamburg, Mar 16, 2023 - Verkehrsbetriebe-Hamburg-Holstein GmbH public transport provider has ordered 95 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro/eCitaro G buses. The first of the fully electrically powered and locally emission-free buses is expected to be delivered by the end of this year, while the other vehicles will be delivered in the first half of 2024. In addition, VHH has secured an option for a maximum of 155 further vehicles by 2028.

The fully electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro can do more: Ludwigslust-Parchim transport company (VLP) in the southwest of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has now taken charge of the last 15 vehicles of a large order consisting of a total of 45 eCitaros. They are mainly used in regional transport.
  • Stuttgart/Vienna, Nov 3, 2022 - The Austrian metropolis of Vienna is now an even better place to live: The Wiener Linien transport company has ordered 60 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro vehicles. Low-floor buses with zero local emissions will be delivered from next year until 2025.
  • Køge, Denmark / Stuttgart , Nov 2, 2022 - Køge, Denmark / Stuttgart – The Danish bus company Vikingbus has ordered 31 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro all-electric vehicles. In future, they will mainly be used in Køge, a harbor town south of the Danish capital Copenhagen in the east of the island of Sjӕlland.

The initial focus will be on the core markets of Europe and Latin America. By 2039, only locally CO2-neutral new vehicles are to be sold in the core market of Europe. In the city bus segment, this is to be the case in Europe as early as 2030.
